Land of Loss (Everworld, #2)
Land of Loss by Katherine Applegate
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I’m still really interested in the kids’ adventures in Everworld–they’re all pretty ressourceful and they have clear personalities in their actions. I can’t help but be a tad disappointed that it doesn’t really show in the narration tho. I mean, they think about different things and all, but they don’t really have a voice if you know what I mean.

The series is still interesting though, and the fact that I’m rediscovering things helps… a neat read, tho a bit short.

may i ask what is going on with the gunman thing? cause i've seen stuff on my dash but i also saw your comments about the news source there doing something dumb? so i guess i just want to know what is confirmed, valid fact and what isn't before i reblog anything

Okay, this is all I know for sure ‘cause the sis needs to work for her exam so she cut the TV and I haven’t gone to check online papers yet (I’m waiting until more is known bc hearing the same thing over and over isn’t going to help anyone)

  • This morning around 11-ish, two men went to the locals of Charlie Hebdo (a satirical newspaper) and attacked the building with war-oriented guns.
  • There are at least twelve dead people, including two cops, and afaik at least two more were in a critical state as of 1pm today.
  • The two men who attacked the newspaper shouted “Allah is great” (in arabic) and “The prophet Muhamad/Mohamed* is avanged” (*Not sure how to spell it in english)
  • As a result, it’s being assumed that these men were Muslim and (on a lesser level) that the attack had something to do with a scandal that arose in 2006 when Charlie Hebdo published satires of the prophet (Prophet?) with a bomb sitting on his headscarf (as I understood it, the scandal was twofold, 1) the obvious bad associations between Islam & terrorism and 2) the fact that you’re not, apparently, supposed to represent the prophet himself)
  • As of 4pm today, there’s no indication of where the assaillants were, no certitude as to their actual mobile (as there has been no claim regarding the motives or executive of the attack). The car they used to flee was found at the Porte de Pantin, and it’s being examined for further information.

The Dumb thing I was refering to is that, around 1:30pm the news release 3 (or 4, can’t remember) names of well-known satire artists who work (worked?) for Charlie Hebdo and said they may have been among the victims (although they didn’t specifiy if they were hurt or dead) and said the informaion “needed confirmation in the minutes or hours to come” which I find stupid because it sounds like they cared more about getting the news out before Twitter than about giving out verified facts.

Well, that, and the usual emphasis on the fact that the two men were presumably muslims, which is unsurprising but still frustrating.

Here’s a link to a Mic. Article that summarizes the events.

And another one to L’Internaute, for those of you who can read French, mostly because I can’t reach the Parisien.
