you like malec but not magnus particularly?

It’s a little more complex than that, actually?

Like, I like Magnus, but Magnus as he’s supposed to be, you know? Like, when you listen to what CC and/or her characters say about Magnus, he’s this very caring person, very attuned to other people etc. etc.

Except when I read the Bane Chronicles, there are plenty of things that kinda come to belie that? Magnus ignoring people who are dying when he could save them, for example, constant dismissing of Mundanes (and many other people), that sort of things.

Like Jace, Magnus is a very dichotomic character in that there’s what he’s said to be and what he actually is. And personally, when I say I ship Malec, I mean I ship Malec but with a Magnus who is either a) actually what CC says or b) realizes there are things he needs to change in his behavior and makes efforts toward that.

That being said, I freely admit that when it comes to CC’s books, my attitude is “take the cool ideas and leave the fail”. “Fail” being defined with varying degrees of subjectivity depending on the aspects we discuss tbh. So like… if you have (or ever) read the chapter about the Twilight fandom in Annie Jamison’s Fic, that’s basically how I feel about CC’s books.

Because hey, there’s a lot of potential for neat stuff in the Shadowhunters’ Chronicles, and I’d rather focus on that as far as my shipping and fanworks are concerned :)

What do you think is the best thing about THG, and what's the worst?

The best thing about THG is that Suzanne Collins really tried to do something good re: the effect of war and trauma on people (mostly psychological trauma, although Peeta, among others, is an example of physical trauma, even if I’m not really qualified to say how good of a representation he is for that) and she did better than most (at least, better than most of what I’ve read).

I don’t know if it’s the worst part but I guess the one that makes me go “what if” the most often is “What if this was written as a books for adults and (or) had explored the setting in a more in-depth/less ”“PC”“ way”

Idk, sometimes I wonder what it would have been like, you know, if Collins had done with Katniss the same kind of exploration and exposition work you did with Spin Control.

A book like that would have been really fascinating to read, I think.
