Confession time: I get irrationnally frustrated when people use Alex instead of Alec to talk about Alec Lightwood.

Like, I recognize that he’s a fictionnal character and I keep it inside but there’s always this strong urge to go “nooooo, that’s not his name!!!”

Thank you for making the sandwich canon in your rewrite <3 Also, I'm a bi Malaysian so Magnus has always been a sore point for me. I'd love it if his roots could be explored more (maybe?). Like idk, maybe have a few characters from that region be his friends. Perhaps even have a Muslim warlock? Idk I'm just babbling. You're awesome. Thanks for listening and sorry if I was pushy :)

You’re welcome–I think having them canon is full of possibilities for the queer side of the rewrite :)
Although, as a fair warning, the most you’re going to see about the Sandwich in the COB rewrite will be an older half-sibling for Alec and Isabelle, as Maryse and Robert are keeping their story with Michael a secret (because a homophobic society like Shadowhunters wouldn’t accept a threesome). If I go beyond COB in the rewrite, then there’s going to be a point where Alec comes out to his parents, and that will be the point where the characters learn about the Sandwich, and the first point of it being officially mentionned.
So like, I’m making the Sandwich canon, but as far as the COB rewrite is concerned, it’ll mostly be hint and Word of God. (Which is a very strange thing to think about for me tbh xD)

 

I honestly don’t know if I’ll be able to explore Magnus’ roots much more than canon did, mostly because I’m firmly decided to stick to Clary’s head for the rewrite and there’s only so much she can learnabout people, especially people like Magnus who have very little reason to want to talk to her in the first place, so I wouldn’t keep my hopes up on that. I will try to include aspects of his roots in his characters, but right now I’m still not sure how, nor how much of that I’ll manage to get in the story ^^’
As for his friends, the same problem applies: Clary has very little reason to be meeting Magnus’ friends, so I don’t think we’ll be seeing much of them, if at all (Catarina has a little cameo in the first draft, but I don’t know if she’ll be in the final product yet).

 

Also, thanks for your input, and you weren’t pushy at all :) It’s nice to have people suggest ideas because, even if I don’t implement those ideas in full, they usually force me to think further about the story and that’s a pretty cool thing to do (and also good for its final quality xD)
