Le Cri De La MouetteLe Cri De La Mouette by Emmanuelle Laborit
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Honestly it’s not so much the writing style that got me with this book, and I wouldn’t say Laborit is a very good writer, but it did offer a brand new perspective on what it can be like to grow up as Deaf in my country.

The experiences Emmanuelle Laborit relates in her book shocked me in several respects, mainly because I’d never really realized how much our society leaves people who are different in the dust, and how it can fail to provide life-saving informations such as, for example, how not to get infected by the AIDS virus.

An eye-opener for me, which made me want to learn more about Sign Language and the French Deaf culture.
