you like alec and you does not like malec? omg please hug me i thought i was alone

Woah Nonners, you sent me more TMI related asks in one night than I got in months xD

Yeah, I’m part of the “Alec deserves better than Malec” club tbh. On paper Magnus could be a very interesting character, but the way Malec is done (both in the books and on the show) makes my skin crawl and I find it, really, really creepy >< So no, Malec as it is in canon really doesn’t appeal to me anymore ><

As for Jace (I’m regrouping some answers to avoid clogging dashes^^) no, I don’t like him either–honestly, my opinion of the Herondales in Canon is that they should all either die or get a serious personality lift :P

That being said, I’m growing to like the version of Jace I have in my Mortal Instruments rewrite a lot, in part because I took the elements I found interesting in canon!Jace and explored that instead of the general fuckboy-ery…as a result, I’ve grown a little more tolerant of canon Jace, I have to admit. He’s still a gigantic asshole but I feel a little less murderous at the thought of him :P

So yesterday I went to see my ostheopath, and at some point he mentioned Pascal’s principle re faith (this was as a prelude to talking about fairies and gnomes and how I should believe in them to feel better in my life at which point he lost me a little but that’s a different topic)

Pascal’s principle, as a quick summary (paraphrased from yesterday’s convo) goes as such

  • If you believe in a/god and there isn’t one, you won’t know bc death = oblivion
  • If you believe in a god and there is one, all power to you bc you get proven right after death
  • If you don’t believe in a/god and there isn’t one, it doesn’t change anything bc death = oblivion
  • If you don’t believe in a god and there is one, you’re fucked after you die bc they’ll be pissed you didn’t believe

And leaving aside the fact that I have a problem with anything designed to go “you should believe in X bc it’d be better for you” on principle, I’m just so opposed to that last one tbh?

Like, honestly, were I to believe into any kind of super-natural/super-human entity governing nature in any way, I sure as hell wouldn’t want to believe in one who punishes people for not believing in them tbh, especially not if you operate on the principle that they created people with free will and then made themselves freaking hard to find.

Because the implication of that is either a) that not believing makes you a bad person (and we’ve had way more than enough proof of how much that reasonning sucks, historically, for me to refuse the idea of the Big Authority thinking anything like that) or b) whatever deity we’re discussing considers believing in them more important than trying to be a good person and, again, this isn’t the kind of deity I’m interested in believing in tbh

i never regret watching something as much as i regret watching shadowhunters. people were always talking about malec and i decided to give it a shot. i regret it so so so much. +

+ and the books are not good neither IMO. but alec? and izzy? they are so precious. i just want to hug alec and protect him of all the selfish people that he cares about

Honestly I feel like a good rule of thumb in this franchise is that the Lightwoods deserve better. All of them.

Also eh, I can’t say I regret watching the show per se–I knew what I was getting into, more or less–but yeah, the hype around it and Malec in particular is vastly underserved in my opinion. Then again, Malec is clearly a pairing designed to appeal to The Straights ™ not to represent actual LGBTQ+ experience (because honestly the way they are onscreen and the way the world rearranges to avoid discussing homophobia makes zero freaking sense lbh)

So I sympathize Nonners *continues burrying the Lightwoods in blankets*

in your opinion, is shadowhunters good as a tv show? not talking about high quality, but as good as teen wolf and the 100, for example?

I’d say both S1 Teen Wolf and The 100 are better quality than Shadowhunters though in different ways.

Shadowhunters, like the books it’s adapted from, seems to reject the idea of applying logic to their characters or storyline on principle (and it’s not even in favor of sticking to book events) which is frustrating as hell because they could have had something pretty neat if they had. Instead we got a lot of plot that looked flashy but made zero sense or less as soon as you try to use your brain for more than 0.5 seconds.

I don’t remember TW well because I haven’t watched in ages, so I could be wrong, but I don’t recall it having as many glaring plot holes, and on the whole I remember thinking the characters were pretty endearing and well-written back then (more recent seasons aren’t as enticing to me–there’s a reason I stopped watching :P)

As for season 1 of The 100, the plots definitely hold their own better than Shadowhunters in my opinion, but the two shows have a tendency to make eveyone and their moms self-centered to the point of irresponsibility and downright cruelty which ugh, no. x)

Out of the three, Teen Wolf remains my fondest memory tho, again, I don’t know what I’d say on rewatching it ;)
