Re: 'Kingsman: the secret services'
Sunday, May 3rd, 2015 05:44 amOkay but can we talk about the classist undetones in Kingsman though?
Like how the entire organization comes from, masquerades as and picks its candidates in a very specific portion of British population? How Harry/Galahad is blamed for picking working-class Eggsy?
Can we talk about the fact that Eggsy litterally says poor people are all thieves? And how the sign that he’s truly become a “better person” is that he drops his class-specific accent and clothes to adopt a more upper-class persona?
Can we talk about how the one time where Eggsy protests against being set apart ( “Am I the expandable candidate?”) he’s told to stop being paranoid even though we’ve seen people react to him in a bad way because of where he came from?
I mean yes, Arthur turns out to be in the bad guys’ team, but then again you’ll notice that the only other character who doesn’t act ‘posh’ is S.L.J’s character aka: the villain, and that’s not enough, in my opinion, to take the classism out of the movie.
Idk, can we talk about that–or have people talked about it where I couldn’t see it? Because honestly hat’s an aspect of the movie that’s been bothering me since I saw it and I’d like to see what others have to say about it :/
