2015 Nanowrimo challenge, Day 1

So @snarktheater, aka @talysalankil is doing a Nanowrimo challenge this year with questions and stuff and I figured it’d be a) cool and b) a god way to get started, at 4:25pm of day 1 :P

Introduce your story to us!

So this year I’m doing draft two of my The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones rewrite.

The project was born in great part thanks to @fel-as-in-tumbld, who saw my neverending frustration with the original novels and encouraged me to do my own version of Clary’s story. My main goal is to try and make this story more about Clary than I felt it was in canon, and to explore the themes of racism, homophobia and discrimination implied (but rarely explored) in the original books.

Okay, and get rid of Simon. Can’t have only noble(ish) motivation.

My version involves a lot of changes from original canon, both on the micro scale (like making the Lightwoods middle-eastern or taking out a couple of limbs) and on the macro scale (like Valentine Morgenstern’s motivations) and, hopefully, those changes wil be enough to turn the story into something that’s a little less Cassandra Clare and a little more ‘me’ so to speak.

But hey, at least I’m having fun and the project brought me my first Nano win already so there’s that ;)
