2015 Nanowrimo challenge, Day 4
Wednesday, November 4th, 2015 10:00 pmThis one’s going to be shorter than the others I think, but it’s me so I’m probably going to find something to babble about anyway ;P Oh well. Second @snarktheater challenge post of the day!
Is your story set in our world?
If so, in what time period and location? If not, what is your world like? Is there an equivalent time period you can identify it as (like medieval fantasy, for instance)?
If you know Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments, you already know the action is set in 2007 New York, more specifically in late-ish August.
Personally I’ve decided to move the action forward so it’s set in August of 2015, mainly because it lightens the workload a bit (no need to check the clothes people wear, and the slang should be easier to get right as well).
The world itself is pretty much the same as it is, except for the obvious addition of werewolves and such, but what I’d like to do is have the ‘mundane’ and supernatural world blend a little more than what we’ve seen in canon, mostly because I’d like to hint at how these people’s lives and struggle intersect (I.e. what are the differences between a white werewolf and a black werewolf, how do they reconcile the value dissonances between the two aspects of their lives etc.)
I don’t know if I’ll have a lot of room for that, but since the topic of discrimination is unavoidable when talking about TMI, I figured it would be nice to dig into that a little, if only in light touches :)
