2015 Nanowrimo challenge, Day 5
Thursday, November 5th, 2015 10:09 pmSo today (or yesterday, but life happened) is the day I tackle the question that, when I read it, made me snort at my computer because the short answer is ‘spite’.
Day 5: How did the idea for this story come to you?
If you’ve ever visited my Shadowhunter Chronicles tag on my main blog (Chrono’ed for your convenience) you can pretty much see where the story came from. (Also the differences between before and after I read The course of True Love, but that’s a different story).
I started my foray in Shadowhunters world with the movie which was… well, it was pretty bad, but I thought there was potential, so I figured I’d try the books, since those are often better… that ws in lated 2013 and I’ve been griping about the series on and off ever since.
I’ve always thought those books had potential to be so much more than they are tbh. They could have been a really cool series with an interesting female lead and a prominent queer couple…you know, if not for the sexism and racism and homophobia and such.
And then one day, I think said someting along the lines of ‘I kinda want to do a rewrite’ and @fel-as-in-tumbld (and others, including @talysalankil (iirc)) was like ‘DO IT’.
At first I tried to resist it because I didn’t have time to do it, it was work, I didn’t knw if I’d be able to finish it (I still don’t) and then I started thinking about it and it sounded fun and interesting, and now I’m doing my second draft (and Nano) for The Immortal Cup and I have a fairly clear idea of what I would do should I ever do a City of Ashes and City of Glass rewrite.
