TMI REWRITE (mostly because it's the only fandom I'm certain we share xD) 5 headcanons!

JSYK, I pretty much giggled when I saw this, thank you! :D

Also small disclaimer that some of these headcanons are subject to changing depending on future planning and/or sensitivity issues that people may bring up^^

Headcanon 1: Jace has afro hair (his curls are actually tighter than Clary’s) that is naturally reddish brown. As a young boy, Val used to shave Jace’s head most of the time. When he went to live with the lightwoods, he started asking to have it dyed black to feel closer to his new family.

But when he meets Clary who is his blood sister (something he’s been trained to consider important) and who is biracial like him (where the Lightwoods are all middle eastern) Jace almost instantly decides to revert to his natural color.

I OF COURSE AM GONNA PROMPT THE IMMORTAL INSTRUMENTS AU

Yayyyyy!  So here we go again, with the same caveat as before–aka if something there sounds offensive (or later turn out to not work with the rest of TIC canon) it won’t make it to the page :P

Headcanon 1: The number of runes that were transmitted to the Nephilim is actually much larged than most of them suspect. However, the Clave (and, in a more discreet fashion, the silent brothers) enforces strict limitations on who gets to learn and use which runes, specifically to avoid the uncontrolled rise of knowledge among the population and avoid facing a revolution (this is made easier by the fact that TIC!Idris is a pocket dimension and, unless you have an authorization to leave or know a secret passage along the lines tethering it to Earth, you can’t encounter Mundanes)

This means, for example, that Shadowhunters aren’t normally supposed to know about the runes used for prosthetics, and the fact that “Outer Rim” people know how to repair some of them comes from illegal experimentation done for their members. (Also yes, Runes contraband is a thing, but it’s still a small scale business because it’s only been thought of fairly recently and it’s not like Lee or Alec spend their lives in Idris)

terresdebrume: Aziraphale & Crowley from Good Omens looking around for clues. (think)

So I’ve been thinking further on Clary’s origins, her ancestry and how she felt about it.

I’ve decided to make her mixed race with Jocelyn being black and Valentine white purely because, as I mentioned in my previous Clary post, I really feel way to iffy about writing a black dude with a blood supremacy-like mindset, no matter how many twists I’ll put in that story (and there will be). I believe this story can be written, but really I don’t think I’m the author who should do it…so mixed race Clary (and Jace) it is.

Now the thing is, I’ve headcanonned the Fairchild family as being one of the oldest lines in Idris pretty much from the beginning, and I don’t feel like changing that, but combined with having Clary as a young black american who lives in a time where #BlackOut only just happened (I settled on the summer of 2015 for the start of TIC fairly early on in the re-planning draft) it does bring some interesting questions.
